About the Course

Learn the skills and knowledge needed to work with children from ages 0-5. Set yourself up for a fulfilling career in in childcare, long day care or kindergarten. Create memorable learning experiences that brighten children's horizons.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Completion of Year 12 or equivalent
  • Applicants must meet the minimum ATAR/Rank: 60.00
  • You may be eligible for a selection rank if you have completed Year 12, have a TAFE/VET qualification, have relevant work experience, or have studied at university before
  • Proficiency in the English language is required
  • If you've completed prior study or have relevant work experience, you may be eligible for credit

Course Structure

Recommended study pattern

This program is offered full-time or equivalent part-time. Each study period, you have the choice to switch between full-time and part-time study. Full-time study is enrolling in three or more courses per study period, while part-time study is one or two courses per study period.

Award requirements

To attain the award of Diploma in Education Studies (Early childhood), students are required to successfully complete 96 units as outlined in the Program Structure.

  • Develop skills needed for employment in childcare, long day care or kindergarten settings
  • Learn how to design creative, intentional teaching practices using language, play and cooperation
  • Learn about child development; care and nutrition for babies, toddlers and children; and working with families, including First Nations peoples
  • Complete 35 days of professional experience placement
